Authentic Watercolour: Practice & Perception
Saturday series
This three-week workshop is designed to help artists build confidence, clarity, and a more personal approach to watercolor. Guided by painter Surnoor Singh, students will learn practical skills for understanding value, colour, composition, and the essentials of seeing—skills that support any style, from loose and expressive to more realistic work.
Rather than following a step-by-step paint-along, students will work through simple exercises, demonstrations, and guided studies that strengthen observation and decision-making. Surnoor introduces the design principle of simplifying a composition into clear light and dark shapes, and then explores how to build colour using a thoughtful, limited palette inspired by master watercolorists such as Sargent, Zorn, and Seago. These concepts help students make stronger, more intentional choices in their own paintings.
Each week blends demonstration, hands-on practice, and supportive group discussion.
By the end of the workshop, students will have a clearer sense of how to develop their own images, make confident design decisions, and paint with greater ease and intention.
