Abstracting Landscapes
Please bring your standard painting supplies that you use for your acrylic, oil or gouache setup along with the
below suggestions. If painting in oil, odourless mineral spirits only. No exceptions. Gamsol is highly recommended.
Sketchbook: A blank page sketchbook for writing notes and compositional sketching. Don’t forget a pen or a
pencil.
Reference Photos: A selection of reference photos you would like to paint. I will also have a small selection of
reference photos to choose from.
Easel: Any tabletop easel setup, french easel or a plein air pochade setup.
Surfaces: One or two canvas sizes you are comfortable painting on. I suggest 8×10”, 9×12” or 11×14”. If you are
comfortable with larger sizes please bring them. Loose pre-primed canvas, a pad of canvas paper or a sheet of
140lb watercolour paper that you can cut/tear into smaller pieces or something similar. The canvas, canvas pad
or watercolour paper is really important for working through studies.
Brushes: A selection of brushes from 1” to 1⁄4 ” is preferred. Flats, filberts or rounds. I am sure you have a good
selection. Don’t forget your mineral spirits or water for cleaning.
Palette knife: One or two palette knives. Not mandatory.
Paints: The paints that you currently own. Chances are you have a large selection but if you are
looking for suggestions, bring a warm and cool of each primary colour, plus burnt sienna and
white. Email me if you have questions or are looking for exact paint suggestions.
Other: A Sharpie or other thick black marker. Masking tape.
Food: Something to drink and something for lunch.
