Foundations of Chinese Brush Painting

Discover the timeless art and philosophy of Chinese Brush Painting in this hands-on foundational course with artist and instructor Leo Hu. Designed for both beginners and those seeking to deepen their understanding of traditional Chinese painting techniques, this weekly class explores the essential skills and materials used in this elegant art form.

Students will learn brush control, ink and colour mixing, composition, and the expressive “Four Gentlemen” subjects — bamboo, orchid, plum blossom, and chrysanthemum — that form the foundation of Chinese painting.  Each session combines demonstration, guided practice, and individual feedback to help students build confidence and fluidity in their work.

 Classes run continuously, allowing students to develop their skills over time in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.  Basic supplies are required, please see supply list link below.
