Painting Impressionistic Florals

Weekend Workshop
Ann Willsie
Virtual Demo: Friday, Nov 12
Workshop: Nov 20 - 21
Sat & Sun 9:30am - 4:00pm
Workshop $285

This workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate students working in oils or acrylics. Join instructor Ann Willsie in a journey to capture the essence of florals; the line, rhythm, and flow of the stalks and petals.  As artists we get caught up in trying to reproduce exact replicas of what we see, getting lost in the details, instead of trying to capturing the soul of what is before you. Ask yourself – why do I want to paint this?  What is it about this particular flower or scene that stirs me? Is it the colours? The line and movement? The intricate design? Or perhaps it is the play of light and shadows falling across the petals and leaves. This will be the focus of the workshop, is to loosen you up and to help you see the big picture.

Each morning will start with a brief discussion of the subject matters listed below, followed by a short demo and exercises. After this each student will be working on their own from live flowers set up around the room. Ann will be providing one-one-one assistance throughout the day to share her artistic insight and help you with any issues or concerns that you may have with your work.

Ann’s in class demonstrations will be in oil paint, but participants are welcome to work in Acrylics as well.
