Course Description

Are you looking to break free from rigid, analytical habits and inject fresh, unpredictable energy into your work? Join resident artist Scott Pleydell-Pearce for a transformative day focused on the art of Modified Contour Drawing.

This specialized technique is designed to bypass the left brain’s literal, over-analytical tendencies and tap directly into the right brain—your source for pure observation, intuition, and raw creativity. By training your eyes and hands to communicate in an entirely new way, you will be forced to draw in an exciting, highly unique manner. You will be amazed at what you can create when you stop drawing what you think is there and start drawing what you actually see… guaranteed!

What to Expect

We will spend the day shifting your creative perspective through a progressive, hands-on workflow:

  • Morning Session: We will start the morning with structured still-life studies. These exercises will introduce you to the core mechanics of modified contour drawing, helping you slow down, master line quality, and find comfort in this liberating approach.
  • Afternoon Session: In the afternoon, we will take these newly awakened creative faculties and apply them to the human form, working from a professional, costumed life model to capture gesture, drape, and character.

Whether you are a complete beginner looking for a solid foundation or an experienced painter looking to loosen up and bring a more expressive handwriting to your work, this workshop will completely alter how you approach the page.

Level: All levels welcome (an open mind is essential!)
