Grand Prix of Art

The painting event of the year is celebrating Culture Days Canada, September 25- 26 at Britannia Shipyards!

Phoenix Art Workshop is proud to announce it’s sponsorship of the first annual Steveston Grand Prix of Art at Britannia Heritage Shipyards. Partnered with the Richmond Artist Guild, and local Steveston merchants we invite you all to come to Steveston and enjoy Culture Days.

The concept of the Grand Prix of Art is to promote local arts in a fun and interactive manner. Artists from around the province are invited to participate in a day of Plein Air painting in Steveston. Participating Artists will be allocated a location in Steveston where they will have 3 hours to complete a work of art, before returning it to the shipyards for display. The works will be then be judged selecting a Runner-Up and the Grand prize winner. Young People are also invited to participate with a dedicated award for youth as well as numerous participation awards. Visitors will also be given an opportunity to vote for a “People’s Choice Award”.

On September 25th art lovers, family and friends are welcome to join us in and around Steveston to watch art in action with the Gulf of Georgia’s 10:00 o’clock fog horn marking the start if this very unique race. The results of all this creative energy will be on display between 2pm -4pm in the Chinese Bunk House at Britannia Heritage Shipyards where the paintings will be displayed for the public again on Sunday September 26th from 10am – 3pm.

All painting and drawing mediums are welcome with many of the completed works being displayed at supporting businesses after the event. Our prize money is not yet confirmed although we are hoping for a grand prize of $500-$1000. This year we are limiting the event to 50 participating artists, hoping to attract high profile, intermediate and student painters alike.
